CTC vs Orthodox Tea: Understanding the Difference

Orthodox processing preserves the leaf structure through traditional rolling, creating a nuanced cup that rewards multiple infusions. CTC (Cut, Tear, Curl) mechanically shreds leaves into small uniform pellets, maximising surface area for a fast, strong, one-use brew — ideal for tea bags and milk teas. Most Indian Assam CTC is destined for tea bags. Darjeeling and Ceylon are predominantly orthodox. Neither is superior — they serve different needs.
